Yardsticks Pdf

ISBN: 1892989891
Title: Yardsticks Pdf Child and Adolescent Development Ages 4 - 14
Author: Chip Wood
Published Date: 2018-01-02
Page: 208

In an age dominated by standardized test scores, Chip Wood's, Yardsticks, is a treasure. It describes children as living, breathing, feeling, thinking beings. Many of the anecdotes made me chuckle or smile. Informed by a deep knowledge of general developmental trends, Wood also urges teachers to take time to observe each child as an individual, and he provides helpful tips for doing so. Most of all, this book helps us appreciate children, reminding us that they are truly a joy. I find this book life-affirming. I love it. --William Crain, Professor of Psychology, The City College of New York and author of Theories of Development: Concept and Applications.Yardsticks is a must-have resource for those committed to helping children learn. The heart of beautiful teaching emanates from understanding how children tick, think, learn and develop. Chip Wood synthesizes the far-flung field of child development into accessible portraits and then provides practical and applied strategies that will help children thrive. --Sam Intrator, Smith College, Elizabeth A. Woodson 1922 Professor of Education & Child Study,Faculty Director of the Smith College (K-6) Campus School For forty-five years, Robert (Chip) Wood has worked on behalf of children from preschool through eighth grade as a classroom teacher, teaching principal, and teacher educator. After studying at the Gesell Institute of Human Development early in his career, Chip made developmentally based teaching the center of his educational practice. His core belief: knowing what children at each age are developmentally capable of doing physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively enables respectful, successful teaching of all children no matter their life circumstances or cultural background. A co-developer of Responsive Classroom and co-founder of Northeast Foundation for Children (now Center for Responsive Schools), Chip has served as principal of two public schools and was co-founder of Greenfield Center School. He is a facilitator for the Center for Courage & Renewal and co-creator of Leading Together, an approach focused on strengthening the adult community of schools.

Helping children grow and learn starts with understanding their development!

Drawing on decades of educational experience and a wealth of research, Yardsticks invites every adult who teaches or cares for children to celebrate the incredible developmental journey that occurs from ages four through fourteen. Combining easy-to-access information about the cognitive, social-emotional, and physical characteristics unique to each age with practical advice for how to apply this knowledge, Yardsticks offers parents and educators a foundation for helping children grow and thrive.

New in the Fourth Edition

Revised introductory material with practical advice for getting to know and understand children

A really helpful guide to child rearing norms! Fantastic book! Useful for parents and teachers alike. Very sensible approach to children and their normal developmental levels. Highly recommended. My third copy, given to my children who have grandchildren.Great for Elementary Teachers Gives the expected milestones for each grade level and age for elementary school. I teach Special Ed and am not always 100% sure what a typically developing peer of the same age is capable of, and this is a great resource for figuring out where the most growth is needed.Super helpful reference Great book. Well-written, well-researched, easy to use as a resource, and it has one of my favorite poems in it as well.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Book 3 Free Pdf

ISBN: B017V4NTFA
Title: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Book 3 Pdf

"'Welcome to the Knight Bus, emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard. Just stick out your wand hand, step on board and we can take you anywhere you want to go.'"

When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it's the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run - and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry's tea leaves.... But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss....

Missing Pages as some were Double Printed I LOVE THE STORY. Illustrations are great. PROBLEM is that the book came missing pages 153-168 because 137-152 were printed twice. It took me a week to realize this. You will want to check your books. I'm sure Amazon will take care of me but thank goodness I wasn't gifting this.Utterly amazing artwork!! My husband tried to surprise me with this order, but we share the amazon account ;)I WAS surprised though, because I didn’t realize it would be textbook size with all these amazing scenes drawn out. They’re AH-MAY-ZING drawings!! If you love Harry Potter, you will love these books. For some reason, hubs couldn’t find the first and second of the series (I did ;p) so he bought the third first, but we know the stories by heart so it doesn’t matter to me. I hope they put out all of them! It almost feels like how I felt waiting for the actual series to come out.Another Rowlings Classic Each of these books in the Harry Potter series is a 'cover to cover read', as soon as I can buy them. Each is a gift to world literature.

  • Seasoned professionals looking for a fast, simple, crash course in Python 3

This has to be your first Python book and it is THE book from which to start learning Python. If you are learning Python 3, THIS IS THE BOOK TO GET FIRST."Learn Python 3 the Hard Way" is THE book to get first if you are learning Python. It is organized into exercise chapters that take you through a hands-on experience in learning Python (one of the fastest growing programming languages at the moment). This is not a book that you will read. it is a book you will work through. Zed Shaw takes you through 52 exercises that will teach you everything from writing your first program (the classic "Hello, World!" program) up through lists, dictionaries, loops, and so on. By the time you finish the 52 exercises, you will have a solid foundation for learning more about Python.Of all of my books that I am asked to lend in my Python Meet-up group, this is the most popular by far. This is the best how-to learn a programming language book I've used I've been a software developer for over 40 years and this is the best how-to learn programming book I've come upon. Over the years I've taught myself COBOL. IBM 360/370 BAL, C, Pascal, C++, SQL, Java, and JavaScript. Mr. Shaw clearly shows that he understands how programmers learn. I liked the book so much, I'm using it to teach 2 of my grandsons how to code with Python 3. I'd recommend this book to anyone, novice or experienced, who wished to learn Python. When it says "the Hard Way," read, "the Right Way." Shaw's "hard way" is the way that I learned to code as an 8-year-old in the early '90s, and the way that my dad learned to code in the '70s. It means that you type in code, character-by-character, from what is printed in the book, not necessarily fully understanding what it's going to do or why. Then, once you have it working, there is an explanation of how the code works. Basically rote memorization drills paired with learning the associated concepts. It can be tedious at times, but it works well. This book is absolutely appropriate for someone with no coding experience. Someone who has learned a language before will probably already be familiar with many of the concepts, but it's still ok if you are willing to tolerate a little bit that. The drawback for me is that a big portion of the book has you writing small Zork-style games in order to practice the skills that you're learning. It's just not something that I am interested in at all, and I've had a little bit of trouble pushing my way through that stuff.
